Randy Peterson...a biography

Randy Peterson's high energy concerts have been enjoyed by children and families at countless schools, libraries, festivals and concert stages for years.  His shows are a fast-moving mix of music, humor and storytelling that are geared for kids, but which all ages enjoy. How did his career begin?

Growing up as a farm kid in Wisconsin, Randy Peterson already wanted to sing on a stage. Through the years he played all kinds of music in all kinds of places. Rock. Country. Even polkas! None of it felt quite right.  Randy pretty much gave up on the idea of music as a career and worked for several years as a commercial artist.(He has a degree in art).

Then one day Randy received a phone call from the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary in Green Bay.  They were planning a family event and asked if he could possibly play his guitar for the kids who would be there.  He said yes...then began to panic. He didn't know ANY children's songs!  With some research and a lot of practice, he put together his first concert for kids. It lasted only twenty minutes, but that show with its' sing-alongs and audience participation gave Randy a new direction in his life. One that never felt more right.

Now thirty years later, Randy is enjoying an amazing career. He has traveled the country, recorded six albums and has received many awards for his work.  In addition to his performing career, he often visits schools as an Artist in Residence, teaching songwriting to students and passing along his joy of performing.
