The Cat Came Back Traditional song  Some verses are new lyrics by Randy Peterson

Now this is the story of a man who owns a cat.

An everyday yellow, furry purry kind of cat.

But the man has a problem and this is that

the man in this story doesn't want to own a cat!

Well old Mr. Johnson had troubles of his own.

He had a yellow cat that wouldn't leave his home.

He tried and he tried to give the cat away.

He gave it to a man going far away...

But the cat came back the very next day. The cat came back!

I thought he was a gonner, but the cat came back! He just wouldn't stay away!

He gave it to a man going up in a balloon.

He told him to take it to the man in the moon!

The balloon came down ninety miles away.

Where the man is now, well I dare not say!

But that cat came back the very next day. The cat came back!

I thought he was a gonner, but the cat came back! He just wouldn't stay away!

So he put it in a package that he was gonna mail.

He wrapped it extra tight.  He wasn't gonna fail.

He sent it to an Aunt living far away in France!

Would he see that cat again?

The man said, "No chance!"

But that cat came back the very next day. The cat came back!

I thought he was a gonner, but the cat came back! He just wouldn't stay away.

Well old Mr. Johnson thought he had the purr-fect plan.

He put it on a ship headed for Japan.

The ship sailed straight into a nasty hurricane!

Soon there was nothing left but the wind and the rain!

But that cat came back the very next day. The cat came back!

I thought he was a gonner, but the cat came back! He just wouldn't stay away.

So he gave the cat to Santa Claus to put into his sleigh.

When the sleigh was full, they were off and away!

You could hear the cat meow as they flew out of sight...

"Meowy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

But that cat came back the very next day. The cat came back!

I thought he was a gonner, but the cat came back! He just wouldn't stay away.
